KWIH30YearsAndBeyond | Parkview Place - Guangzhou

13 Jul 2022

In the early 1990s, the old city of Guangzhou used to lag behind both in infrastructure and city planning, and residents had to live in a poor environment. As a pioneer and one of the first Hong Kong enterprises to invest in mainland China, K. Wah International (“KWIH”) took on an urban renewal project in Guangzhou in 1992 to modernise the city. After demolishing several old buildings in Guangzhou’s Yuexiu district, the Group developed The Parkview Place, a modern commercial and residential complex, near the Liuhua Lake Park. This property was both the Group’s first development in Mainland, as well as Guangzhou’s first sizeable old town renewal project.

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, recalls in his biography, “the location of this project was great, but the infrastructure, due to long-time halted development, was appalling. Old buildings including run-down factories and residential buildings were everywhere, and they completely overshadowed the exquisiteness of Liuhua Lake Park.”

Though tattered buildings and the relocation of inhabitants posed great challenges to KWIH, the Group tapped into its rich experience in property development to overcome these hurdles, and successfully constructed a modern landmark. Today this project still stands as a well-known project in Guangzhou and a major milestone in the history of the Group’s property development in mainland China.
