Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group visits Lui Che Woo Building, Fudan University Supporting Education Development for Betterment of the Society
(Shanghai, 29 February 2012) – Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group and a member of Board of Trustees of Fudan University, pledged a donation of USD3,800,000 in 2008 for the renovation and expansion of Zibin Building, a historical building at Fudan University. The building after renovation will become the office of central administrative unit and be renamed as Lui Che Woo Building. Today, Dr Lui and senior management of K. Wah Group made a visit to the renovated Lui Che Woo Building in the company of Zhu Zhiwen, Party Secretary of Fudan University, Feng Xiaoyuan and Xu Zheng, Vice President of Fudan University and other school representatives.
Lui Che Woo Building (Zibin Building) was first established in 1925 as Fudan’s President Office. While it is the only building that was well-preserved in the campus over the past century, Lui Che Woo Building is also enlisted as one of the heritage sites of Shanghai. In 2008, Dr Lui Che-woo, a member of Board of Trustees of Fudan, supported the renovation and expansion of the historical building with a view to aiding tertiary education development in Mainland China by enhancing campus facilities. The renovated building will serve as the office of Fudan’s central administrative unit, equipped with facilities including function rooms and president office.
Upholding the belief in “strengthening the country through education”, Dr Lui Che-woo spares no effort in supporting elementary and tertiary education development through Lui Che Woo Foundation all over the years, which includes establishing scholarships, building teaching facilities, supporting research, and promoting academic exchange. Fudan University apart, major sponsorships also include The Ministry of Education of PRC for the construction of 122 schools in impoverished region, China Europe International Business School, South China University of Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a number of Mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas universities.
