Mr Francis Lui Yiu Tung, Deputy Chairman of K. Wah Group, delivering the speech during the ceremony, said, “With the recognition from different sectors of the society, we must first thank the community which provides this free, enterprise friendly and thriving business environment, and then our partners who have supported us throughout these years. I also have to thank generations of our staff for their strong dedication to their work. Most importantly, I am especially grateful to Dr. Che-woo Lui for establishing a solid foundation of K. Wah Group with his unflagging spirit and insistence on continuous innovation over the past 55 years.”

As K. Wah Group’s business has advanced to realise its objective of “Working with society and repaying society”, starting from the 1980s, the Group has actively participated in education, community services, culture and recreation, and environmental protection as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility. On the meaningful occasion of celebrating its 55th anniversary, the Group announced that Dr Che-woo Lui is going to donate a total of HK$180 million to various organisations, including HK$100 million of this amount to the “Community Care Fund” under the Hong Kong Government in a hope of helping the people in need and contributing to the harmony of the society. Moreover, Dr. Che-woo Lui will contribute HK$60 million to The University of Hong Kong for the construction of a law library in HKU’s Centennial Campus to nurture more talent, thereby benefitting the society (see photo caption 3), and provide HK$10 million to subsidise poor university students in the rural areas of Mainland China to complete four-year degree courses (see photo caption 4).

Another important commitment to society has been the Group’s ongoing support for the educational development in mainland China. In 2005, the Lui Che Woo Foundation donated HK$45 million to the Ministry of Education for the reconstruction and renovation of 122 primary and secondary schools in underprivileged areas within seven provinces. Work in this area has progressed smoothly and was completed earlier this year. To mark this success, in collaboration with Wen Wei Po the Group has published a book entitled “愛上學” to share the touching stories of the benefited schools with the public. The books are to be sent to the children in various regions as well. A book presentation ceremony was another memorable moment of the party (see photo caption 5).

Professor Poon Chung Kwong, President of Virya Foundation Limited, received a HK$10 million cheque on the stage.

Mr Shu-Cheng Wang, Chairman of Wen Wei Po and Dr Che-woo Lui officiated the “愛上學” book presentation ceremony.

Mr Lui concluded, “Looking ahead, we will further our efforts to leverage our integrated capabilities and uphold our objectives of ‘Working with society and repaying society’ to provide a greater contribution to the society and China for their long-term development.”

The performance by the staff of Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited boosted the festive atmosphere of K Wah Group's 55th Anniversary celebration.
