InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong participated in the worldwide campaign 'Responsible Business Week'

Hong Kong, March 2012 – Building on the success of InterContinental Hotels Group’s global campaign ‘Responsible Business Day’ last year, this year the event was further expanded to 'Responsible Business Week’. InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong (ICGS) once again participated in this global event by organizing the coastal cleanup and tree planting activities on October 24 and 29, 2011 respectively.

Partnering with National Geographic’s Centre for Sustainable Destinations, InterContinental Hotels Group has been launching the worldwide campaign with hotels and resorts from different cities since 2010. Each property initiated various geotourism activities that helped preserve historical heritage, celebrate local culture and support environmental programmes.

Marine debris, rubbish and sharp objects found on the beach were collected and removed during the half-day cleaning activity

Mr Peter Pollmeier, General Manager of ICGS led the team of department heads to join the International Coastal Cleanup 2011 Hong Kong campaign in Sha Ha Beach (Sai Kung) on Monday, October 24. Marine debris, rubbish and sharp objects found on the beach were collected and removed during the cleaning activity. 

The ‘Responsible Business Week’ was further supported by a team of back of house and frontline staffs. In view of raising the global awareness of ‘International Year of Forests 2011’ by United Nation, Staff from different departments joined the tree planting activity organized by Hong Kong Green Nature Union (HKGNU) on Saturday, October 29. Saplings were planted along Tan Shan River Natural Reserve Area in the Pak Sin Leng region (New Territories).

Mr Pollmeier said, ‘By acting responsibly to the community, we aim to raise the public awareness of the need to protect the shoreline and the nature.  We believe it’s our responsibility to respect the natural environment, heritage and communities our hotels reside in.’
