Wah Group sponsors universities in the Mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas to establish scholarships, build teaching facilities, support research, promote academic exchange, enhance educational facilities and nurture talent development for the community; and is also committed to supporting the primary education. Recent major sponsorships include:
 

KWIH becomes the first partner of the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Real Estate and Construction to launch Industry X Academic Exchange Programme. To inaugurate the programme, KWIH presented the model of TWIN PEAKS, a landmark residential development in Tseung Kwan O South, to the university as the first case study for students to analyse the factors in terms of geographic environment, sustainability, corporate social responsibilities and marketing.

 

KWIH staff joined the first SHKA Charity Walk for a Million co-organized by the Shanghai Charity Foundation and the Shanghai Hong Kong Association Limited on 19 November 2016. The event aimed at raising funds for Project VolunONLINE, which supports the learning of left-behind children living in remote areas in Mainland China through online classes. Committed to giving back to society by supporting charitable causes, through this event, KWIH hopes to spread its staff’s love and care to society, and promote positive energy and a positive attitude towards life.

Upholding the belief that "giving back to the society from which one is benefitted", KWIH contributed RMB 100 million to establish Jia Hui Cheng School in Huadu District, Guangzhou, China. On 27 October 2016, more than 300 guests, teachers and students attended the Jia Hui Cheng School Handover cum the Establishment of K. Wah Education Fund Ceremony to witness and celebrate the historical moment together. During the ceremony, KWIH also announced the establishment of K. Wah Education Fund amounting to RMB 1 million.
Ms Paddy Lui, Executive Director of KWIH, said, “J Metropolis is our new large-scale key project settled in Huadu District. And, the launch of the education fund could help the school enrich its curriculum and support teachers to widen their horizons through vocational training. Invited by the Peking University Education Foundation, Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, had an insightful sharing with over 150 scholars and students in a forum held at the Peking University on 24 June 2016.
In addition to sharing how he develops his business empire over the past 70 years through a prudent yet pragmatic approach, he also stressed the importance of “Sharing in Harmony.” He said that beyond fame and fortune, spiritual calmness and inner happiness are much more important. This is also Dr Lui’s aspiration of the establishment of LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation.

The unveiling ceremony of the Phase 2 of Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation Building was held at Wuyi University in Jiangmen on 3 June 2016. As the Former Chairman of Wuyi University Education Fund (Hong Kong) Limited and Honorary Life Chairman of Wuyi University Board of Trustees, Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and encouraged the University to continue nurturing talents for the society.
In his speech, Dr Lui paid tribute to overseas Chinese, fellow townsmen and the local government who provided unfailing support to the establishment of the University and laid a solid foundation for its development. After years of advancement, its graduates become a key driving force for the construction of local economy, and take a leading role to promote the progress of the nation and society.
Established by Dr Lui and his friends in 1992, the Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation has been providing resources essential for the development of the Wuyi University, including funding the teaching and learning facilities, campus networks and study tours. It also supported the construction of Shiyou Building and Lui Che-woo Technology Building.

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group is a long-standing supporter of medical research and development. Through LUI Che Woo Charity, Dr Lui has made a donation of US$2 million to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for the establishment of Lui Che Woo Distinguished Young Scholars Award. Supported by the endowment fund, Lui Che Woo Distinguished Young Scholars Research Scholarship will be offered to distinguished CUHK medical students for pursuing postgraduate research abroad.
Officiated by Dr Lui, Prof Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, and Prof Francis Chan, Dean of Faculty of Medicine of CUHK, the donation ceremony was held at the Lui Che Woo Clinical Sciences Building of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin on 12 May 2016.
By establishing the scholarship, Dr Lui encourages outstanding medical students in Hong Kong to contribute to the society by exploring a new era for medical sciences with innovative and multiple perspective thinking.

 

Co-organized by the Macau Management Association (MMA) and GEG, the fifth GEG Youth Achievement Program opening ceremony was held on 11 November 2015. The theme of the Program focused on further enhancing the youngsters’ awareness of the community needs, allowing last year’s winners to serve as ambassadors in the new Program to lead the new participants in organizing community events.

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, and Mrs Lui, officiated University of Macau (UM)’s Appreciation Plaque Unveiling Ceremony of Lui Che Woo College on 22 April. Through contribution to UM and helping the students with financial needs, Dr Lui wishes to support the long-term development of UM in nurturing more managerial professionals, which fits in Macau SAR Government’s policy of talent cultivation.

 

On 1 November, Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, and Mrs Lui, together with Alex Lui, Executive Director of KWIH, and management of the Group, officiated the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation Building (Phase I). The Board of the Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation has committed to donations to build three student dormitories. Net income generated from these fixed assets will be used to finance education, scholarship and other developments to sustain the Foundation’s mission. 

GEG held the 6th Macau Youth Knowledge Competition of National Conditions as a title sponsor in June. The winning team went for a study tour to Guizhou arranged by the National Conditions Education Association (Macau) in August and visited various government departments. The trip enhanced young people’s sense of belonging and national pride.

In collaboration with the Macau Management Association, GEG organized the third Youth Achievement Program, providing young people with personal enhancement and community outreach opportunities. At the closing ceremony held at StarWorld Macau on 29 July 2014, outstanding members were presented with certificates and awards, and winners were invited to partake in a study tour to Sri Lanka. Through trainings, community activities and volunteering work, the youth explored their potential, learnt to work as a team, and applied their skills and knowledge to the work environment.

Dr Lui Che-woo has been passionate in supporting education. As a Council Member of Fudan University, Dr Lui recently made his first attempt to create an oil painting, Village House, and donated it for a charity auction in July, raising HK$300,000 for the School of Management of Fudan University to support its development.

To enhance young people’s understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry, GEG specially offers students of Escola Luso-Chinesa Tecnico-Profissional a field trip to Galaxy Macau in mid April, during which the students gain a better understanding of how a large-sale resort operates.

In early April, members of GEG Youth Achievement Program demonstrated their organization and leadership skills through organizing a community event in which more than 30 young people participated in the blindfold run and luncheon. Guided by members of Macau People with Visually Impaired Right Promotion Association, the workshop offered participants an experience of a life without sight, raising their awareness of eye health.

Sheraton Suites Orlando Airport cares for children living in poverty. The hotel staff called for a book and puzzle donation for Pinewood Elementary School with 95% poverty level. They also initiated Jeans Fridays, raising funds and donating items needed to homeless students in Central Florida.

 

K. Wah Group became the title sponsor for the K. Wah Writing Contest organized by Wen Wei Po in celebration of its 65th anniversary, so as to provide a platform showcasing the talents of teenagers and writing lovers, and in turn enhancing language standard and exploring the fun of writing.

On 25 September, Dr Lui Che-woo Chairman of K. Wah Group and a Council Member of Fudan University, paid a visit to the University, together with some 40 senior management members of the Group to attend the unveiling ceremony of a newly renovated historical building complex, renamed Lui Che Woo Building. Dr Lui, Paddy Lui, Executive Director of KWIH and GEG and Joseph Chee, Executive Director of GEG and Managing Director of KWCM shared their views with more than 400 faculty members, students and guests and staff in a forum on corporate succession.

Co-organized by GEG and Macau Management Association, the closing ceremony of GEG Youth Achievement Program was held at StarWorld Macau on 10 July. Certificates were presented to participants who had completed the program successfully, and those with outstanding performance were given a chance to join a study tour to Cambodia. Targeting local young people between 18 and 25, the program aims to help the participants discover personal strengths through a range of team building activities and practical trainings such as community and volunteer work.


GEG has been organizing biannual internship programme for undergraduates to put their skills and knowledge into practice since 2008. In the first half of 2013, 24 departments provided position for 41 students from University of Macau, Institute for Tourism Studies Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Swiss Hotel Management School and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. GEG hosted an appreciation ceremony at StarWorld Macau on 26 June to acknowledge students’ hard work and contribution.

 

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group pledged a donation for the setting up of an extended Law Library at the Centennial Campus of the University of Hong Kong in 2010. A dedication ceremony at the Lui Che Woo Law Library was held on October 2012, as a vote of thanks to Dr Lui’s long-standing support.

K. Wah Group has donated HK$100 million to the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the establishment of the Lui Che Woo Institute of Innovative Medicine which focuses on advancing brain research and innovative neuroscience, sports medicine, regenerative technology and cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment. The ultimate goal of the endowment is to encourage branching out into new medical fields.

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group and a member of Board of Trustees of Fudan University, and senior management of K. Wah Group made a visit to the renovated Lui Che Woo Building in the company of Zhu Zhiwen, Party Secretary of Fudan University, Feng Xiaoyuan and Xu Zheng, Vice President of Fudan University and other school representatives on 29 February.

 

Months earlier, GEG hosted an inauguration ceremony at StarWorld Hotel to commemorate the launch of the Group and the Macau Management Associations’ collaborative "GEG Youth Achievement Program" .

GEG is committed to the nurturing of local talents and since 2008, GEG has been working with various higher education institutes in offering students a variety of internship programs so that students will have the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in a practical work setting. In the first half of 2011, 48 students from various education institutes, including Institute for Tourism Studies, Macau University of Science and Technology, Hotel Institute Montreux and Swiss Hotel Management School, completed the internship program and to congratulate the students, GEG invited the students to Galaxy Macau™ in July and hosted an Internship Program Appreciation Ceremony for them.

Prior to the grand opening of Galaxy Macau, GEG launched a unique "Galaxy Macau Student Exposure and Experiential Development (SEED) Program" to give local undergraduates the opportunity to participate in the opening of GEG’s massive integrated resort and GEG’s own team members to step into the role of Galaxy Macau Opening Ambassador. To commemorate the hard work and contribution of both the participating students and team members, in July, GEG hosted a special Appreciation Ceremony at Galaxy Macau.

GEG hosted an appreciation ceremony for 13 interns in January in recognition of their outstanding performance during its internship programme, which allowed them to experience the real-life professionalism. Before the opening of Galaxy Macau™, GEG introduced Galaxy Macau Student Exposure and Experiential Development (“SEED”) Programme to students of local universities. SEED Programme, a 200-hour vocational training and internship experience, offers students valuable opportunities to take part in the preparation of the opening of the project, and a chance to embrace GEG’s Asian Heart philosophy as well as its professionalism.

 

Collaborating with the Ministry of Education of China since 2005, the Group's renovation and construction programme of 122 schools in Mainland China came to fruition this year, with a book titled Ai Shang Xue <<愛上學>> covering the touching stories of the beneficiaries published. The books were given to teachers and students in addition to business partners to share the fruit of the five-year programme while encouraging more people to support the good cause.

Dr Lui Che-woo, the Group Chairman, pledged a donation of HK$60 million to the University of Hong Kong through Lui Che Woo Foundation for the construction of the Lui Che Woo Library in the Centennial Campus in contribution to nurturing legal elites in Hong Kong.

14 students completed internship programme at GEG in the first half of 2010, who were assigned to various departments to strengthen their professional and interpersonal skills.

Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG under the Group, together with the Group management attended the China Europe International Business School (“CEIBS”) Beijing campus inauguration ceremony on 24 April, followed by an unveiling ceremony of the Lui Che Woo Auditorium in response to the Group's RMB 8 million donation.

Dr Lui Che-woo, the Group Chairman, pledged a donation of MOP30 million to the University of Macau via Lui Che Woo Foundation on 12 April. The donation allows the university to extend new campus in Hengqin, Zhuhai, and to establish scholarships and exchange programmes.

 
In June, K. Wah Group visited Jingan Lui Che Woo School in Yunnan, one of the schools co-funded by Lui Che Woo Foundation and local governments of Shanghai Jingan District and Yunnan Province, marking a new chapter of government-enterprise partnership to develop education in Mainland China.
 

On 23 September, K. Wah Group Chairman Dr Lui Che-woo made a donation of HK$30 million to Fudan University in Shanghai for the renovation and expansion of Zibin Building, which after renovation will become the office tower for Fudan's central administration, renamed as Che-woo Building. The Fudan K. Wah Day co-organized by the Group and Fudan aimed to bring about synergy in talent nurturing through school-enterprise partnership.

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group made a donation of HK$30 million to Hong Kong Polytechnic University in support of the continuous development of the university and the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. A commemorative unveiling ceremony of Lui Che Woo Building was held on 8 December.

 
K. Wah Scholarship were established from the donation of HK$14 million to the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University by K. Wah Group. This year, 12 students were offered opportunities to join placement programme in world-renowned hotels.
Lui Che Woo Foundation pledged an annual donation of HK$9 million, totalling to HK$45 million from 2005 to 2009, to the Ministry of Education, for the construction or renovation of 150 schools. In October, K. Wah Group sent about 20 volunteering staff to visit Heqi Primary School in Yunnan, one of the beneficiary schools.

In July, K. Wah Group Chairman Dr Lui Che-woo shared his years of experience and insight in the hotel development trend as a keynote speaker in the China Hotel Branding Forum organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with academics, industry practitioners and students.

 
K. Wah Group donated HK$14 million to the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic Univeristy to establish Che-woo Lui Hotel and Tourism Resources Centre and K. Wah Scholarhsip, with an aim of nurturing hotel management professionals.
 
Lui Che Woo Foundation donated RMB10 million to Fudan University in Shanghai to improve its facilities including construction of Guanghua Building with its main hall on the first floor named as Che Woo Hall.
Lui Che Woo Foundation pledged a donation of RMB1.2 million to construct an academic complex and to upgrade teaching facilities such as computer rooms, library and stadium of Shaliyuan Lui Che Woo Primary School.
K. Wah Hotel and Tourism Forum, sponsored by K. Wah Group and organized by the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 300 guests including local and international academics and industry practitioners shared their views on the global trend of hospitality.
 
Hong Kong Polytechnic University named its tele-rehabilitation centre after Dr and Mrs Che-woo Lui in recognition of their generous support for and donation to the university, providing greater accessibility and convenience to patients.
 
K. Wah Group participated in the "Round-the-CU Walkathon & Carnival", to raise fund for the Cancer Centre of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Chairman Dr Che-woo Lui led the walk and sponsored each staff with HK$1,000 for completing the walk.
Francis Lui, K. Wah Group Vice Chairman, donated a fund for building Lui Che Woo Swimming Pool at Nanjing University, to enhance the physical fitness of students.
